The very first book I recall that made an impact was “Are you there God it’s me Margaret? by Judy Blume.” This book blew me away and I was hooked thereafter. I read every JB book I could get my hands on and I recall fondly the book set I received for Christmas and the fact that I read all 6 books in the matter of a few weeks. That was the best present I ever got…it forever made me a lifelong reader.
I am Poetical of trulypoetic.diaryland, otherwise known in real life as Kristy. I love books and I could write ten pages about why where and how but I've done that already for years in my main diary. This is my brand new book review site. I love books but I won't lie about whether they're good or not. I will tell you my brutal opinion. Beware that I don't like Stephen King, Danielle Steele and or Nicholas Sparks and I don't usually buy and or read what everyone else is reading just because they are reading it. No thanks! I also do not like Dean Koontz, or Margaret Atwood (who won’t give out autographs…she’s apparently too good for that?) at all! I will admit that I had a long time love affair with Danielle Steel in my early twenties but we broke up when I found out she really can't write outside of her tried and true formula. If you read one of her books you have then read them all...read one and quit is my advice.
Among my favorite writers are Tod Goldberg, Amiee Bender, Brett Easton Ellis, Chris Bohjalian, Scott Spencer, S.E. Hinton, and Maggie O’Farrell. My favorite short story ever is by Pam Houston, it’s called “How to Talk to a Hunter”. I love it so much I have it printed out and one day just might frame it. (First line is brilliant “When he says "Skins or blankets?" it will take you a moment to realize that he's asking which you want to sleep under.”)
My first love is poetry and anything lyrical. Any writer who can use their words like poetry within the confines of fiction and storytelling while making me fall in love with their characters wins big thumbs up from me. Nicole Blackman remains my favorite poet but there’s sometimes a big tie with Ani DiFranco. But let it be known to anyone that wonders or asks that Paul Westerberg is the God of all writing abilities by far. I worship at the altar of Paul daily. If he wrote a book I could die happy…provided he used his mad writing skills to create fiction the way he does lyrics.
(now more about me...)
I am a full time college student, a full time employee, a mother of a brand new teenager and I still find time to read nearly every day for pleasure. Oh and I am in love with my man...the biggest reason might just be because he tolerates my 841 glorious books living with us in a one bedroom apartment. The books in return behave well for him. But...that's love people!!
